The Self quarantine list for the Bored, the Productive, the Hobbyist and the Lonely – Part 1

While we all slowly become insomniacs and keep swiping down again and again to refresh like mad men. Life has unbearably slowed down and inevitably we feel stuck. Maybe it’s time to inject some newness in this mosaic of sameness.

Therefore I bring to you the #selfquarantine List for the Bored, the Productive, the Hobbyist and the Lonely – Part 1:

Learn to make shadow puppets. Bored out of your mind? Can’t bear to look at your mobile anymore? Don’t feel like getting up to do anything? Make shadow puppets with your hands! You can even add voices, giving the puppets personalities and makeup a whole story. If you are feeling crazy enough, you can host a show for your neighbours in your balcony!

Grow some plants. You have a goldmine of seeds available in the food scraps you throw away. My mom’s garden is full of plants from the seeds of thrown away scraps: tomatoes, green chillies, lemon, rai, papaya etc. If you have no soil available, many plants grow just in water. For example garlic, onions, basil, mint etc grow just in water and sunlight. Maybe you will be using these herbs in your dishes by the time quarantine ends.

Experiment with fashion and makeup (this is not just for girls). All the clothes that you were procrastinating in throwing away, instead make something new out of it. Pinterest and Instagram have multiple pages on how to repurpose your old clothes. Also, you could learn new makeup looks. Stay at home in style.

Do some science experiments. Remember the baking soda volcano you made as a science experiment in school? No better time to adopt the mad scientist look and do science experiments! Youtube has videos on videos of simple experiments that can be done at home, with things on hand. So stay home and don’t forget to wash your hands after the experiment is done ;).

Join a live dance party. Artists and influencers from all over the world are holding live dance parties, zumba classes, yoga sessions and what not. Go join a party and feed your soul a diet of music, exercise and dance!

Mark Kanemura (@mkik808) holds live dance parties on Instagram.

Staying moving folks.

– Sakshi.
